GALESBURG, ILLINOIS (February 15, 2019) — Singer/songwriter David G Smith will open the 2019 Carl Sandburg Songbag Concert series on March 10 at the Carl Sandburg State Historic Site in Galesburg.
For years, Smith has relied on real life stories to drive his songs. Living in Nashville, Tennessee, and Blue Grass, Iowa provides Smith with time to spend on the backroads between both places. Smith earned First Place in the 2008 International Songwriting Competition in the Country Music category with “Made for You”. His song “Fear” was a semifinalist in ISC’s 2012 contest. His songs have been featured on TNT’s “Saving Grace,” Travel Channel’s “Rissi Palmer’s Country,” and Lifetime’s “Chasing Nashville.” For additional information visit his website https://davidgsmithmusic.com/home.
During intermission, the Sandburg site’s bookstore will be open providing a chance to do some shopping. The store features books written by and about Sandburg, Sandburg recordings, mugs, bookmarks, items of local historical interest, and more.
The Songbag performance by David G. Smith will be in the Sandburg site’s Barn at 313 E Third Street in Galesburg. The show starts at 4:00PM and ends at 6:00PM with a break for refreshments around 5:00PM. A donation of $5 per person is suggested. The 2019 Sandburg Songbag Concerts are made possible thanks to a grant from the Mark and Celia Godsil Family Fund, a Donor Advised Fund of the Galesburg Community Foundation, and the Community Impact Fund at the Galesburg Community Foundation. The concert is presented by the Carl Sandburg Historic Site Association and the Illinois Department of Natural Resources.

August 11: Andy Crawford and Harry Tonchev, jazz guitar and bass
Carl Sandburg was a collector and performer of America’s folk songs. The series is named in honor of Sandburg’s book “The American Songbag,” published in 1927.
