PRESS RELEASE (January 30, 2019) — Super Bowl Sunday is almost here, so Sports Illustrated and PCMag teamed up to survey over 2,800 U.S. football fans on how they’ll be watching Super Bowl VIII, and got a look the top tech and viewing trends for the Big Game.

Sports Illustrated + PCMag Super Bowl Survey Highlights:

  • More states will be rooting for the Rams than the Pats — 22 states said the Rams was their Super Bowl pick, while only 15 states said the Pats was the top choice

  • There’s been plenty of talk about CBS’ decision not to discuss gambling during the broadcast, however, 25% of survey respondents said they’d be gambling on the Super Bowl — and 15% of them will be gambling illegally!

  • Super Bowl Viewing Trends

    • While cable is still the most popular choice for the half of the respondents, we found a spike in younger viewers — 60% of 18-34 year olds plan to stream the Super Bowl this year.

    • 27% of streamers said that the delay between digital streams and broadcast television—“latency”—negatively impacted their viewing experience this year.

    • Roku devices are the most popular device for those streaming the game at 33%, followed by Amazon Fire devices (24%) (Both great choices have won PCMag Editors' Choice awards).

    • 50% of respondents will watch the Super Bowl via cable, while 11% will stream the game.

    • Rams fans are more likely to stream the big game online than Pats fans.
