(Des Moines, Iowa.) – “We were encouraged to hear Gov. Brandstad emphasize the need for investing in our education system to allow Iowa’s students to better compete in the today’s computer-driven job market, building our state’s infrastructure including training opportunities and new jobs. The Iowa AFL-CIO is ready to be a partner in these areas working with the Governor’s office and the state to develop these computer science programs, partner on apprentice programs and to ensure that these new jobs have salaries and protections that will provide a decent life.

This means ensuring that our state’s public employees have quality health care, livable wages, and maintain their right to health care privacy between them and their doctors.  Each of these priorities are jeopardized by the Brandstad’s plan to eliminate the fair contract negotiation process where both employees and the state of Iowa have an equal voice.”
