DAVENPORT, IOWA (June 17, 2020) — A swearing-in and promotional ceremony was held this morning at the Sheriff's Office Patrol Headquarters located at 3206 South 16th Avenue in Eldridge. Misty Bunker has been hired as the newest deputy sheriff for Scott County and Deputy Sean Thompson has been promoted to the rank of sergeant.
Misty Bunker was born in Oregon and was raised in California. Misty joined the United States Army in 1997 and was commissioned as a Chief Warrant Officer in 2007 and retired in 2016. Bunker completed five combat tours of duty, three in Iraq and two in Afghanistan. While deployed, Bunker trained both the Iraq and Afghanistan Armies and took part in every major operation of the Iraq war, to include the invasion in 2003, the siege in 2006, and the drawdown in 2010. Bunker was awarded two Bronze Stars and the Combat Action Badge for combat operations. Bunker has been stationed all over the world to include Germany, Japan, and Africa. Bunker graduated with a bachelor’s degree in Kinesiology and a minor in education from the University of Maryland. After retirement, Bunker became a Nationally Certified Emergency Medical Technician and worked part time and volunteered over 500 hours for MEDIC EMS. Bunker has worked as a part-time officer for the cities of Blue Grass and Aledo, Illinois, and became Iowa-certified in April 2020. In Misty’s spare time, she is a personnel trainer and a pro-bodybuilder and enjoys spending time with family and friends.
Sean Thompson was born and raised in Davenport and is a graduate of Davenport Central High School. In 1990, Thompson joined the United States Marine Corps and was deployed to the Persian Gulf, Japan, Fort Bliss, Texas, Kuwait, and Iraq. During his service with the Marine Corps, Thompson earned The Combat Action Ribbon, The Southwest Asia Medal with two stars, The National Defense Medal, and The Kuwait Liberation Medal. Thompson also received The Meritorious Unit Commendation, Joint Forces Unit Award, Navy Unit Award, Navy Unit Commendation, Piston Sharp Shooter, and Rifle Expert. Thompson was honorably-discharged in 1994 and stayed in the In-active Reserves from 1994-1998. After the military, Thompson worked at Per Mar Security and Iowa 80 Group Truck Stop. In 2008, Thompson joined the Scott County Sheriff’s Office Reserves and was hired as a full-time deputy in 2009. While working as a deputy, Thompson has been in the Patrol Division, the Civil Division, has been a member of the FBI Gang Task Force, worked as an accident investigator, a field training-officer, an SRT commander and sniper, the Iowa Sheriffs and Deputies Association legislation representative, and is the former president and vice president of the Deputy Sheriffs Association union. Thompson raced BMX bicycles professionally from 1988 to 2016, and in 2007 represented Team USA at the World’s in British Columbia, Canada. In Sean’s spare time, he likes to mountain bike, weight-lift, and spend time with his wife, Tara, and two kids, Jacob and Molly.
