BETTENDORF, IOWA (April 22, 2024) Gather with Tapestry Farms supporters to celebrate the beginning of the growing season with the annual Spring Fling benefit event. On Friday, April 26, 6-10PM, guests are invited to enjoy food, drinks, live music, a silent auction, a special guest speaker from Burundi, and more. The event will be held at the Quad Cities Waterfront Convention Center, 2021 State Street, Bettendorf, Iowa.

Tapestry Farms, a non-profit urban farm based in Davenport, assists refugees and their families as they rebuild their lives in the Quad Cities with meaningful work, quality education and child-care, a safe and affordable home, good medical and mental health-care, citizenship, and a caring community. Tapestry Farms also operates an urban farm system that honors the skills and talents of refugees while growing fresh vegetables to minimize the effects of food deserts on marginalized communities in the Quad Cities.

Guest speaker Fidele Muragara will share his story in an address to supporters. Muragara moved to the United States in 2017. Born in a refugee camp in Burundi, his family is from Democratic Republic of Congo and Rwanda. Muragara learned English quickly — one of five languages he speaks — and graduated from Davenport West High School. He is now a student at St Ambrose University majoring in industrial engineering and finance. His family includes his mom and six siblings.

“We are so excited to gather in love and support of Tapestry Farms and the work that we do,” says Ann McGlynn, founder and executive director of Tapestry Farms. “The evening will be a joyful celebration. We look forward to a great time, all the while raising funds to invest in refugees in the Quad Cities community as they build their lives in our wonderful community.”

Over the last seven years, Tapestry Farms has served hundreds of refugees, thirty of whom are now citizens of the United States. The work of Tapestry Farms is ongoing and funds are needed.

Tickets can be purchased here or by visiting the Tapestry Farms website.

About Tapestry Farms:

Tapestry Farms generously invests in the lives of refugees who resettle in the Quad Cities, focusing on:

● Access: We persistently work to eliminate barriers refugees experience to housing, education, medical and mental health-care, work, food, transportation, community, and citizenship.

● Urban farm: We reclaim underutilized land in Quad City neighborhoods experiencing food insecurity, growing culturally responsive food so that all in our community are abundantly fed.

● The future: Our greatest hope is that building trusted connections will create a Quad City-wide welcoming infrastructure — a vibrant and thriving community for every single person, including refugees.
