Later in Rockford, Bustos will continue her “Better Deal for our Workforce” tour with a visit to Auburn High School’s EMITT program

On Thursday at 9:30 AM in Moline, Congresswoman Cheri Bustos (IL-17) will welcome the Ranking Democrat on the House Ways and Means Committee, Congressman Richard Neal (MA-1), for a “Cheri on Shift” and round table discussion on the future of apprenticeship training. At this event, Bustos and Neal will take part in an apprenticeship training program at the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local 145 where they will learn how to wire fire alarm panels. Afterward, they will hold a roundtable discussion to hear from workers, apprenticeship students, instructors, contractors, and labor leaders.

Then at 1:30 PM in Rockford, Congresswoman Bustos will continue her “Better Deal for our Workforce” tour with a visit to the Auburn High School’s Engineering, Manufacturing, Industrial and Trades Technology (EMITT) Academy. At this event, Bustos will learn about their workforce training programs which include architecture and construction, engineering, manufacturing operations, skilled trades, and transportation technology.

As a strong advocate for building a skills pipeline that connects our high schools and community colleges with local employers, Bustos has played a key role in developing the Better Deal economic agenda - which includes doubling federal investments in apprenticeships and workforce training. In the last several days, Bustos has visited United Township High School’s Area Career Center, the Morrison Institute of Technology, and Woodruff Career and Technical Center to learn about their workforce development programs. She also met with the Knox County Area Partnership for Economic Development to hear about their new Creating Entrepreneurial Opportunities (CEO) program for high school students and their partnership with Carl Sandburg College.
