DAVENPORT, IOWA (May 25, 2019) — The Wisconsin Timber Rattlers scored a combined seven runs in the fifth and sixth innings of Saturday night’s game as they defeated the Quad Cities River Bandits by a 9-4 score at Modern Woodmen Park. The Timber Rattlers received 7.0 solid innings from their starting-pitcher Adam Hill who allowed one run on just three hits.

The score was tied 1-1 when the fifth inning began. Yeison Coca and David Fry started the inning with back-to-back doubles to put Wisconsin in front for the first time in the series. Quad Cities starter Cody Deason walked Jesus Lujano and hit Connor McVey with a pitch to load the bases with no outs. A sacrifice-fly by Chad McClanahan scored another run to increase the lead to 3-1. Reliever Riley Cabral replaced Deason and surrendered a two-run triple to Je’Von Ward to make it 5-1 before the inning ended.

The Timber Rattlers (22-25 pushed across three more runs in the sixth against Cabral. Brice Turang and Coca opened the inning by reaching base, allowing Antonio Pinero to drive in a run with a single to right. A second run scored on the same play when Austin Dennis’ throw to third base bounced away for an error. McClanahan drove in a final run with his own RBI single to push the margin to 8-1.

The River Bandits (30-15) closed the gap considerably with three runs in the eighth, but their rally fell short. Jeremy Pena scored Michael Wielansky with a single into center-field and Cesar Salazar pummeled a double off of to right field to drive in two more runs and cut the deficit to 8-4. Pena finished with three hits, raising his batting average to .294 on the season, and Salazar drove in three runs.

Deason took the loss after allowing five runs on five hits in 4.1 innings. Cabral surrendered three runs, two earned, on five hits over 2.1 innings, and Joey Gonzalez allowed one run over the final 2.1 innings out of the bullpen.

The River Bandits and Timber Rattlers continue their series with game three on Sunday afternoon at 1:15PM. The River Bandits will have RHP Luis Garcia (2-0, 3.38) on the mound in a meeting with RHP Logan Gillaspie (1-0, 2.97) of Wisconsin. Players will be available for autographs prior to the game and kids will be invited to run the bases after the conclusion of the contest.
