Tune in for Festival 2019

JOHNSTON, Iowa (February 18, 2019) — Special guests, new programs and viewer favorites will take center stage during Festival 2019, February 23-24, and March 2-11 and 16-17, on statewide Iowa Public Television. This programming celebration-the network's only extended pledge drive of the year-allows viewers to support the programming they enjoy. Festival programming will air on IPTV (.1), IPTV WORLD (.3), and IPTV Create (.4). Some of this year's specials airing on IPTV (.1) are listed below. Don't Miss

• "Best of Living in Iowa: Territory Bands-Sunday" — March 3 at 1PM. In this episode of "Best of Living in Iowa", revisit a tribute to territory bands that brought music and dancing to several Iowa communities during the 1930s and '40s and see a profile of Dave Dighton whose music was only a small part of this legendary Iowa band leader.

• "The Happiness Machine" — Thursday, March 7 at 7:30PM. Carl grew up as a sharecropper on 22 acres in rural Iowa, which he now calls "The Promised Land." A philosopher, inventor and farmer, he shares the deeply-intricate workings of his projects (including a full span bridge he built with his hands), how they are connected to the land which was given to him as a promise, and what he hopes to pass on to his children as the gift of place.

• "Iowa Land and Sky" — Wednesday, March 6 at 6:30PM. Join Iowa Public Television for an entertaining and educational exploration of Iowa's communities, natural resources and environmental challenges with this new special. Leveraging the latest advancements in aerial drone cinematography, the project features breathtaking bird's-eye perspectives, as well as beautiful close-ups of the state's landforms, rivers, and towns.

• "Saving Brinton: America ReFramed" — Thursday, March 7 at 8:30PM. History teacher and collector Mike Zahs uncovers a rare collection of films in an Iowa farmhouse that were once owned by one of America's first motion picture impresarios, William Franklin Brinton. Zahs sets out on a journey to restore and present the showreels to today's audiences — taking him to The Library of Congress, Paris, and back for a big-screen extravaganza in the same small-town movie theater where Brinton first showed his movies.

• "The Power of Radical Kindness With Angela Santomero" — Saturday, March 9 at 5:30AM. Explore how being kind can lead to a more fulfilled, happy, healthy, and successful life. The creator of acclaimed children's series Blue's Clues and Daniel Tiger's Neighborhood reveals the hidden science behind the transformative power of kindness.

• "Brit Floyd — 40 Years of the Wall" — Friday, March 8 at 9PM. Brit Floyd, the world's greatest Pink Floyd tribute show, returns to the stage in 2019 with its most ambitious and best production yet, a very special 40th Anniversary retrospective of Pink Floyd's iconic rock opera, "The Wall."

• "Great Performances: Andrea Bocelli @ 60" — Monday, March 4 at 8:30PM. Celebrate the world-renowned tenor with a concert spotlighting his popular music and opera repertoire including the duet "Fall on Me" performed with his son Matteo along with songs from his new album "Si."

• "Josh Groban: BRIDGES: In Concert From Madison Square Garden" — Monday, March 4 at 7PM. Join the global superstar with the instantly recognizable voice along with special guests Idina Menzel and Jennifer Nettles for this critically-acclaimed, sold-out concert taped at the famed New York landmark.

• "Nat King Cole's Greatest Songs (My Music)" — Saturday, March 9 at 7PM. Tune in for full performances of his greatest hits and most cherished songs. In addition, rarely seen footage from his groundbreaking 1950s variety show and long-lost promotional films paint a nostalgic portrait of an impeccable and timeless artist.

• "Quincy Jones Presents Sheléa" — Saturday, March 9 at 4:30PM. Join Quincy Jones, David Foster, and the multi-talented Sheléa for this intimate concert taped in Los Angeles. Sheléa performs a wide range of songs, including a Whitney Houston medley, a tribute to Aretha Franklin, and West Side Story's "Somewhere."

• "Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers — From Gainesville: The 30th Anniversary Concert" — Friday, March 8 at 10:30AM. Grab a front-row seat for this 2006 concert as the iconic band performs for a hometown crowd as part of their 30th anniversary tour. Featuring special-guest Stevie Nicks, this is an electrifying and emotional evening.

• "Victoria Season 3 on Masterpiece: Season Finale" — Sunday, March 3 at 8PM. In the season three finale, the world's eyes are on the Great Exhibition and the Royal couple. Does triumph or failure beckon?

• "What the World Needs Now: Words by Hal David" — Sunday, March 10 at 4PM. This special is a musical tribute to the man who wrote some of the most enduring songs in American popular music. In partnership with composer Burt Bacharach, the duo crafted a rich legacy of Top 40 hit recordings unmatched to this day.

• "Woody Guthrie All Star Tribute Concert — 1970" — Wednesday, March 6 at 9:30PM. The Woody Guthrie All-Star Tribute at the Hollywood Bowl in 1970 celebrated the work of America's greatest folk singer. Arlo Guthrie, Joan Baez, Pete Seeger, Country Joe McDonald, Odetta, Richie Havens, Ramblin' Jack Elliott, and others performed in this historic tribute concert.

Home & How-To:

• "America's Home Cooking: Stuffed" — Saturday, March 16 at 9:30AM. For generations, people have enjoyed the universal food experience of stuffing little balls of dough with a variety of fillings. Host and chef Chris Fennimore shows how to prepare some of these classic comfort foods at home.

• "Best of the Joy of Painting: Special Edition" — Saturday, March 2 at 6AM. This new special highlights the soft-spoken Bob Ross as he completes his beautiful "Home in the Valley" painting. It also features an off-set painting class where a handful of young fans are learning to create, and includes man-on-the-street interviews, as well as celebrity and athlete testimonials.

• "Rick Steves' European Travel Tips and Tricks" — Saturday, March 9 at 8:30AM. Rick Steves shares the essential skills for smart European travel. He also imparts valuable lessons from a lifetime of travel so others can learn from his experience and travel smarter.

• "Rick Steves' Travel as a Political Act" — Saturday, February 23 at 8:30AM. In this presentation, Rick Steves shares his belief on the importance of traveling outside the United States in order to experience other cultures, broaden one's perspective and gain empathy toward people who may live and think differently.
