SCOTT COUNTY, IOWA (June 29, 2026) — UPDATE: In reference to the motor vehicle accident on 1-80 at MM 283. The driver of the vehicle involved has been identified as Elio N Garcia. The 35-year-old female occupant has been identified as Axe Graves both of Wisconsin. Mr Garcia and Mrs. Graves were treated at the hospital and released. The juvenile involved in the motor vehicle accident is still being treated by the University of Iowa Children Hospitals.

Accident with Injury

On Saturday June 27, 2026, at approximately 3:23PM, Scott Emergency Communications Center received a call of a rollover accident near the 283-mile marker of westbound Interstate 80. This was reported to be a single vehicle accident involving a pickup truck and a tow-behind camper. The Scott County Sheriff’s Office and Iowa State Patrol responded to the scene and an investigation was conducted.

The initial investigation found that a 2017 GMC Sierra was traveling westbound pulling an enclosed camper, and lost control causing both the truck and camper to roll over. The truck and camper came to rest on their tops in the median of Interstate 80. The truck was occupied by: a 31-year-old male driver, a 35-year-old female passenger, and a 23-month-old female. Both the 35-year-old female and 23-month-old were ejected from the vehicle. The 31-year-old male was transported by Medic Ambulance ground transport to Mercy One Genesis Hospital. The 35-year-old female and 23-month-old were transported to University of Iowa Hospitals, with the 35-year-old being transported by Medic Ambulance ground transport and the 23-month-old by MedForce. Their conditions are unknown at the time of this press release.
