FAYETTE, IOWA (February 18, 2022) — The works of artist Cindy Hellyer-Heinz will be featured at Bing-Davis Memorial Gallery at Upper Iowa University's (UIU) Fayette Campus February 28-April 6. The solo exhibit, titled "Anima," will close with an artist talk and reception from 3:30-5:30PM, Wednesday, April 6. The 2022 High School Art Show will precede the April 6 event, 9AM-2:30PM. Additional details will be released as they are made available.

"The wonder and numinosity rooted in the layers of nature are compelling," said Heinz. "There exits the potential to experience reverence in the intricacies that provoke all the senses into thorough engagement with the moment. To be present with the qualities found in the natural world reminds us of both the temporal and enduring and universal character that is collective experience. This connection creates a realization that we exist in sacred truth, life meaning through commitment and passion. It is about relationship.

"Walking daily in the forest, I find fascination in the pieces of dead fall," the artist added. "This woodland detritus is a source of inspiration in helping to discern the miraculous diversity. Regarding the textures, patterns, broken bark, lichen, and mold so subtle yet complicated in its variety, I am trying to communicate this sensual elaboration."

Heinz earned a Master of Fine Arts degree at Northern Illinois University and a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree, with honors, at the Pratt Institute in New York. Currently serving as an associate professor of drawing and foundations at Northern Illinois, she is also a member of Integrative Teaching International, Illinois Higher Education Arts Association, Illinois Articulation Initiative, and Foundations in Art: Theory and Education.

Bing-Davis Memorial Gallery is located in Edgar Fine Arts Hall at UIU's Fayette Campus. The gallery is open 8AM-5PM, Monday through Friday. Hours are subject to change.
