BETENDORF, IOWA (December 1, 2022) — The Quad City Engineering and Science Council (QCESC) is seeking volunteers to support students competing at the upcoming FIRST LEGO League robotics qualifying event on Saturday, December 3, at The Rust Belt in East Moline. Approximately 150 students ages nine to fourteen from 22 Illinois teams built robots and prepared presentations to compete for awards and a chance to advance to next level competitions.

QCESC is looking for volunteers to support this event. No prior experience required for most volunteer positions with both technical and non-technical backgrounds welcome and training provided as necessary. Friends, neighbors, and family members are all welcome to volunteer, including college and high-school students.

Inspire the next generation of changemakers as a FIRST® volunteer. Volunteers work side-by-side with students to develop their leadership and problem-solving skills and foster self-confidence. And — along the way — you will become energized and inspired as well.

This year’s challenge, “SUPERPOWERED,” asks students to focus on energy. They’ll explore the ways in which energy is essential to our lives and consider where energy comes from, how it’s generated, how it’s distributed, and how much is being used.
