MOLINE, IL – WQPT’s political coverage on “The Cities with Jim Mertens” received a second place award from the Iowa Broadcast News Association on Saturday night for their series of political discussions during the 2016 election cycle.  WQPT also took home a third place award for their “Snapshots” program titled “Iowa-Illinois Memorial Bridge.”

“The Cities has always been designed as a program for in-depth discussions on the issues of the day,” said moderator Jim Mertens.  “I think it was particularly important to hear from the candidates during this last election cycle and I am honored that The Cities was acknowledged in this way.”

“We are delighted that the two pieces we submitted for consideration were honored by the IBNA,” said WQPT General Manager Mary Pruess.

WQPT is a public media service of Western Illinois University.
