ROCK ISLAND, ILLINOIS (September 15, 2025) — YWCA Quad Cities is proud to announce membership in both the National Diaper Bank Network (NDBN) and Alliance for Period Supplies (APS).

NDBN connects and supports more than 240 community-based diaper banks that collect, store, and distribute free diapers to struggling families. Similarly, APS works to connect and support organizations that provide critical period supplies. YWCA Quad Cities will be one of two diaper banks in the Quad Cities and the only APS allied member in the region.

This news comes at a pivotal time.

A critical community need

Female-headed households in the Quad Cities face poverty rates significantly higher than the national average. Nearly one in three of these families live in poverty.

YWCA Quad Cities witnesses this need firsthand. Through its Iowa Empowerment Center, 80% of the households it serves are headed by women, and the number of clients has more than doubled in the last year.

Meeting the need

Diapers, wipes, and feminine-hygiene items are among the most-requested supplies by families. Through NDBN and APS, YWCA Quad Cities will be able to better meet this demand, ensuring that families can access not only these essential products but also the supportive services they need to thrive.

“Access to diapers and period supplies isn’t a luxury, it’s a basic human need,” said Julie Larson, President and CEO, YWCA Quad Cities. “Our acceptance into the National Diaper Bank Network and Alliance for Period Supplies means that we can stand even stronger with families in our community, addressing urgent needs while also tackling the root causes of poverty. This is about equity, empowerment, and ensuring no family is left behind.”
