Jeanie B! is a Chicago-based singer, songwriter and pre-school music teacher who has won acclaim for her fun, entertaining and educational kids music. Her "heroes" show puts a spotlight on real-life heroes with a playful and interactive look at the different kinds of heroes in our lives. Audiences will help Jeanie write a superhero song, and kids will get their creative juices flowing while singing, playing, and saying thank you for heroes.

Jeanie B! is the creator of several award-winning CD music releases. Titles include an upcoming release, I Love Music, along with Sugar Buzz (2011), Joy (2008), Mommy Knows Best (2006) and I'm a Kid (2005). When not performing at one of more than 150 concerts per year, she teaches music to pre-school and special needs children at five Chicagoland area schools.

Activities are free and open to the public, and are part of the Every Hero Has a Story and Escape the Ordinary summer education offered until July 18. The reading incentive contests and more than 60 free events are designed to help keep children, teens and adults active, productive and learning over the summer. More than a century of research shows that students who don't read and learn over the summer score lower on standardized tests at the end of summer vacation than they do on the same tests at the beginning of the summer.

Venue voted the Best Minor League Ballpark in 2013 is in a bracket for fans to vote on all 30 Class-A ballparks
DAVENPORT, Iowa (June 12, 2015) - Voted the Best Minor League Ballpark two summers ago, the Quad Cities' River Bandits home, Modern Woodmen Park, is now in the "Best of the Ballparks" contest on BallparkDigest.com. The website is having fans vote to decide in a bracketed competition the best ballpark at each minor league level.
All voting takes place on BallparkDigest.com, an industry leader in news about ballparks and baseball business. Modern Woodmen Park is the No. 2-seeded ballpark in the Class-A contest, so it will be against either Lansing's Cooley Law School Stadium or Bowling Green Ballpark in a round of voting kicking off Saturday at 9 a.m.
Ballpark Digest has recognized Modern Woodmen Park four times in the last seven seasons for Best Ballpark Improvement, most recently in 2014 for the addition of the first Ferris wheel inside a minor league ballpark.

In 2013, readers of USA TODAY and 10Best.com, voted Modern Woodmen Park as the Best Minor League Ballpark in an online contest. The ballpark, which opened in 1931 as Davenport Municipal Stadium and was known as John O'Donnell Stadium from 1971 to 2007, is the oldest stadium used continuously by a current Minor League Baseball team for more than 50 years. The current Midwest League franchise has played in it continuously since 1960, and nearly eight million fans have passed through its gates in that time.

WASHINGTON - Sen. Chuck Grassley of Iowa said today that fall internships for college-age Iowans are available, and applications are due July 15.

Internships are available in Grassley's Washington, D.C., office as well as his offices in Cedar Rapids, Council Bluffs, Davenport, Des Moines, Sioux City and Waterloo.  The semester-long internship will run from August 18 through December 18.

Interns assist staff members with administrative, legislative and communications work, including that of Grassley's staff on the Senate Committee on the Judiciary, where he serves as Chairman.  An internship allows for a wide range of learning experience and exposure for students on Capitol Hill.  A firsthand account of a Grassley internship can be read here.

Grassley said he encourages young Iowans who are interested in learning more about the government to apply.  "Interning in a congressional office is a good way for college students and new graduates to learn more about the legislative branch of the federal government while gaining valuable work experience.  Internships in my offices are available to students in all areas of study," Grassley said.

WASHINGTON, June 12, 2015 - Following an announcement by the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) Secretary Tom Vilsack on May 29, 2015, the Commodity Credit Corporation (CCC) today announced that all 50 states, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico and Washington, D.C. may now apply for up to $100 million in grants under the Biofuels Infrastructure Partnership (BIP). The funding is to support the infrastructure needed to make more renewable fuel options available to American consumers. The Farm Service Agency will administer BIP.

USDA continues to aggressively pursue investments in American-grown renewable energy to create new markets for U.S. farmers and ranchers, help Americans save money on their energy bills, support America's clean energy economy, cut carbon pollution and reduce dependence on foreign oil and costly fossil fuels. A typical gas pump delivers fuel with 10 percent ethanol, which limits the amount of renewable energy most consumers can purchase at the pump.

Through BIP, USDA will award competitive grants, matched by states, to expand the infrastructure for distribution of higher blends of renewable fuel. These competitive grants are available to assist states, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico and Washington, D.C. with infrastructure funding. States that offer funding equal to or greater than that provided by the federal government will receive higher consideration for grant funds. States may work with private entities to enhance their offer.

CCC funds must be used to pay a portion of the costs related to the installation of fuel pumps and related infrastructure dedicated to the distribution of higher ethanol blends, for example E15 and E85, at vehicle fueling locations. The matching contributions may be used for these items or for related costs such as additional infrastructure to support pumps, marketing, education, data collection, program evaluation and administrative costs.

This new investment seeks to double the number of fuel pumps capable of supplying higher blends of renewable fuel to consumers. This will expand markets for farmers, support rural economic growth and the jobs that come with it, and ultimately give consumers more choices at the pump.

Opening the same day as the Bix Race and the final dip in Davenport, L&D15 thinks Brett Whitacre's Maximum Wage artist reception is going to draw art lovers downtown that evening. "Brett is going to be here, and we are hoping that by having our event concurrently with all these other great events in the downtown, that we can encourage locals and visitors alike to walk around downtown and have a good time," explains L&D15 co-owner David Balluff.
Brett Whitacre is a self taught and colorblind artist living and working in Northern Illinois. He has been producing works using a reverse glass painting technique for 12 years. Upon moving to Chicago in 2001, he began walking, biking, and driving the alleyways of the city seeking various discarded materials to use as a canvas. Pre-digital televisions, hard shell luggage, and storm windows were his favorite finds. Settling on his love for the crispness and pristine of paint on glass, found window panes became his main focus. Brett's work today is on windows but also tempered glass panels for a more modern feel. The subject matter varies greatly as his interests are broad. When asked why he paints what he does, he'll say "All these things are really cool...I like em".

Clinton, IA (June 11, 2015) The Rotary Club of Clinton's "Celebrate our Heritage, Invest in our Future" campaign to raise $1 Million to renovate the Eagle Point Park Lodge is over half-way to its goal thanks to great endorsements and community support..

The Rotary Club of Clinton led project to renovate the 1930's built Eagle Point Park Lodge announced this week that it has raised over $538,000 so far and still anticipates getting to $1 Million by July 1st.  Dedicated Rotarians picked this project and set the lofty, but attainable, goal as a way to give back to the community in celebration of the Rotary Club of Clinton's 100 years of service.

"We wanted to celebrate our 100th anniversary by doing something remarkable and bigger than normal to show our gratitude to the community for their support the past 100 years.  We couldn't think of a better way of giving back then making sure one of the area's treasures stands tall for 100 more years," said Kellie Hillis, Executive Director of Big Brothers Big Sisters of Clinton and campaign co-chair.

The fundraising campaign, which started seeking funding the beginning of April, has been endorsed by numerous local groups including the Chamber of Commerce, Clinton Convention & Visitors Bureau, Clinton Regional Development Corporation and the Lyons Business Group.

The Eagle Point Park Lodge was built in the 1930's by WPA workmen.  There have been some additions and upgrades since then, but with crumbling walls, outdated fixtures and increased usage, the lodge is in need of some improvements.  The $1 million renovation includes leveling out the entrances and updating the bathrooms for ADA compliance, creating a grand entrance with lodge feel that can accommodate buses, expanding the veranda on the river side to allow for outdoor event space, aesthetic interior and exterior improvements plus the addition of a small meeting/bridal room.
