Eight school districts, the Arconic Foundation, and United Way rallied around the Challenge 5 initiative, encouraging all students to “Strive for Less than 5” absences this school year.

Today is Challenge 5 Day in local schools, with a challenge to have 100% attendance in all classrooms and in all schools. Last year Challenge 5 Day was held August 30, 2017 and total attendance in Quad Cities schools was 96.1%. Attendance results will be reported later today.

One of America’s most unique city parks will now host the third annual Quad Cities Renaissance Faire on September 29-30th (11am to 6pm). This regional event will be established at Credit Island Park, a living history site in itself, after running at two locations on the Illinois side of the river.

Children enjoying the sights and sounds of the Canadian Pacific Holiday Train’s return to the Davenport riverfront in December and homeless children sheltered at Winnie’s Place will have a little something extra in their goodie bags this year, thanks to a generous $200 gift by the Junior Donations Committee of SSAB of Iowa, Inc.

Churches United of the Quad City Area gratefully acknowledges and accepts this contribution from our corporate partner in Muscatine.
