Rock Island Announces Grant Program for Not-for-Profit Agencies

The City of Rock Island is accepting applications from local non-profit agencies for the 2018 Gaming Grant Program. Gaming Grant funds are intended to enhance public service activities that benefit the Rock Island community. Not-for-profit public service agencies that serve Rock Island citizens are eligible to apply.

Iowa National Guard sends support to Houston

Kim Reynolds and the Iowa Department of Homeland Security and Emergency Management, 11 soldiers and two CH-47F Chinook helicopters from the Iowa Army National Guard will deploy Friday to the Houston, Texas, area to support response operations for Hurricane Harvey.

The legislation, the Water Quality Conservation Act of 2017 (H.R.3646), targets existing federal grant funds to assist farmers with innovative efforts to increase nutrient retention in soil, reduce soil erosion, improve soil health and improve overall water quality.

AccuWeather Global Headquarters - September 1, 2017 - AccuWeather reports while the Gulf Coast continues to deal with the devastating impacts of Harvey, emergency managers in the United States have another tropical threat to monitor by the name of Irma.

Far across the Atlantic, west of the Cabo Verde Islands, Irma strengthened into a Category 3 hurricane Thursday afternoon. Irma became a tropical storm at midday on Wednesday.
