The Coralville Center for the Performing Arts will present a special performance of Stephen Sondheim's musical Company on Sunday, September 20 at 7:30 pm to benefit City Circle Acting Company of Coralville.

Produced by Chris Okiishi and Patrick DuLaney, the show centers around confirmed bachelor Robert on the night of his 35th birthday as he contemplates his unmarried state. Over the course of a series of dinners, drinks, and even a wedding, his friends -- "those good and crazy people [his] married friends" -- explain the pro's and con's of taking on a spouse.

The production which was the brainchild of Okiishi and DuLaney was performed in early August at a party they hosted at Coralville's North Ridge Paviliion. Last spring they decided to throw a party  and put on a show featuring some of their favorite theatre people. The production is a one-of-a-kind immersive theater experience--combining a party with a performance and will be reprised on stage at the Performing Arts Center. Audience members will be seated on stage with the actors. Drinks and light refreshments will be served.

The cast includes Patrick DuLaney, Robyn Calhoun, Kristy Hartsgrove Mooers, Megan Gogerty, Ken Van Egdon, Joe Mosher, Rip Russell, Carrie Houchins-Witt, Mary Rinderspacher, Lindsay Raasch, Victoria Vaughn, Krista Neumann, Emil Rinderspacher, and Adam Kopfman. DuLaney directed the production and Carl Rowles provided music direction.

Matt Falduto wrote in the Iowa Theatre blog after seeing the show, "As you might imagine, the hand picked cast was excellent, easily navigating Stephen Sondheim's challenging score. At the heart of it, the show is about finding someone, a partner, and all the joys and heartbreaks that can come with it. While filled with laugh out loud moments, it can also be an incredibly moving show. This cast handled both sides of that coin wonderfully well."

Tickets are $25 and can be purchased at coralvillearts.org or at the Performing Arts Center at 1301 5th Street in Coralville. Limited seating is available.

Dear Friend,

Today we join with our families, neighbors and friends to stand together and remember those whose lives were taken when our nation was attacked on this tragic day 14 years ago. We are eternally grateful to the firefighters, police, EMTs, and other first responders who risked their own lives on September 11th to save their fellow Americans. We must also pause today to honor those servicemembers who made the ultimate sacrifice in defense of our nation.

In the years since the tragedy, we have honored those we lost with a National Day of Service and Remembrance. This is a time for us to come together to make a difference in our communities. It also provides a living reminder of hope and gives comfort to those whose lives were forever changed.

We also must care for those who rushed towards the building saving an untold number of lives. To support these heroes, Congress passed the James Zadroga 9/11 Health and Compensation Act in 2010. I was proud to support this legislation, which finally allowed over 70,000 9/11 responders and survivors to access medical monitoring and treatment for their injuries and illnesses.

Unfortunately, this important law expires in October and Congress must act now to extend it and maintain coverage for these first responders.  Please be assured that I will continue to fight every day for the selfless individuals who put protecting and helping others above their own safety.

Fourteen years ago, we were attacked by terrorists seeking to tear our country apart. Let us come together again on this solemn anniversary to redouble our commitment to honoring the legacy of those we lost by making our great nation event stronger and more steadfast.

Sincerely,

Dave Loebsack

Coal Valley, IL - September 11, 2015 - Niabi Zoo has completed renovations of its giraffe building to enhance the level of care provided to its giraffe herd. Renovations include a new textured flooring surface in the giraffe holding stalls to help keep the giraffes' hooves trimmed to a proper length and an anti-microbial wall coating to allow animal care to keep the stalls virus and bacteria free.

All of the materials for this project, known as ZooSpec Antimicrobial Floor & Wall systems, were donated in-kind by Protective Industrial Polymers. ZooSpec Antimicrobial Floor & Wall systems have been specifically developed to not only withstand the daily rigors of a zoo environment, but also provide a comprehensive approach to controlling microbe growth, as well as offer enhanced safety benefits. Niabi Zoo sought out the ZooSpec system of products will not support growth of various molds, bacteria, mildew and fungus. The textured flooring also will keep the giraffes' hooves worn down to an appropriate level as they walk around on it.

"We are happy to have completed these improvements to our giraffe building," said Zoo Director Marc Heinzman, "and we are absolutely thrilled that Protective Industrial Polymers was kind enough to donate all of the materials for this project." Heinzman said that this project was essential to improving the care of Niabi Zoo's giraffes. FIRST®, For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology, is a global nonprofit organization with the mission to inspire the next generation of technology leaders. FIRST Tech Challenge, designed for students from 7th - 12th grades, kicks off its season with the annual game reveal each September.  This marks the start of a process of designing and building robots to compete in the game.

Of note this year is a new control system just introduced by FIRST. The new robot control system is Android based, with Android devices on both the robot itself, and in the hands of drivers. This represents the first large scale application of the Android operating system in student based robotics.

Now FIRST Tech Challenge teams can program robots while learning to design apps. Perhaps even more important, the native language of Android is Java, the same programming language high school students are learning and the basis for their AP programming coursework. Learning to code and develop apps, while creating a robot and competing against other teams, is a first for Android and an exciting way to engage the next generation of programmers, app developers, and engineers. In fact, mobile device designers are one of the hottest
