Goodwill Industries, a private not-for-profit community-based organization, not only offers thrift merchandise but also offers employment services for people with disabilities and long-term employment barriers. Dave Barringer, vice president of marketing communications at Goodwill Industries International, credited the organization's willingness to adapt and try new ideas for its success. "Great innovations put a spotlight on the $2-billion organization," he said. Merchandise selection is one reason Goodwill provides a good shopping experience. The organization's outlets rotate goods among stores every few weeks, meaning that there's regularly new merchandise. Locally, Goodwill Industries International aids 16 counties in Iowa and three counties in Illinois. In 2004, 365 jobs were obtained by individuals with the help of Goodwill, citizen donations, and proceeds from purchases. Unique to Rock Island County is a Homeless Veterans Program, which helps homeless veterans find employment. Goodwill has four Quad Cities locations: 2302 Spruce Hills Drive in Bettendorf, 4241 23rd Avenue in Moline, 5360 Villa Drive in Davenport, and 4664 44th Street in Rock Island.
