Reader issue #671 We started from scratch with our Best of the Quad Cities ballot this year, with the goal of breathing new life into this venerable institution.

We added dozens of categories and grouped them more thematically. So we have a "Best Date Night" section that includes everything from food to flowers, and a "Best Hangover Day" section to recover from your merrymaking, and a "Build a Better Quad Cities" section to make our community better.

Some people were not amused, baffled by the "Best Place to Get Arrested" category and miffed that some traditional categories were excluded. We've heard your complaints and will keep them in mind when we build next year's ballot.

The popular vote ruled in our survey, but we also took nominations in "Best Kept Secrets" categories, and are featuring in these pages several of those, chosen by a combination of nomination volume and staff choice.
