• The "dark store" agreement between Wal-Mart and the city will come up for a vote at the June 6 city-council meeting. The agreement sets forth what the city and the retailer will do when its current store is closed next year.
Moline
• The Moline City Council was scheduled to consider a handful of measures related to cable-television franchising at its meeting June 5. One ordinance would establish a "regulatory framework" for awarding and regulating cable franchises in the city. (The city has always handled the issue on a case-by-case basis.) The council was also slated to look at granting AT&T Broadband an eight-year renewal to provide cable television to city. In addition, the council was expected to consider the transfer of the AT&T franchise to Mediacom.
• The city is also working to streamline its nuisance-abatement process for excessively tall grass and weeds. Under an ordinance that was up for consideration June 5, the city would only need to give a property owner one notice before being allowed to abate the nuisance itself and charging the property owner for the costs.
