Tiffany windowAn original Tiffany window that was stolen from a Rock Island mausoleum in 1976, then recovered by the FBI in 1996, is now on display at the Figge Art Museum, 225 West Second Street in Davenport. Louis Comfort Tiffany created the "River of Life" window, made of Favrile glass, copper foil, and lead, as a commission for the Denkmanns for their family mausoleum in Chippiannock Cemetery in Rock Island sometime around 1905. The Denkmann family wanted to have the window professionally conserved upon its recovery and wanted to place it in a local institution where it would be secure and available for public view.

Recently announced results from the 2007 GMAC Insurance National Drivers Test ranked Iowa drivers 10th in the nation and Illinois drivers 45th for their driving knowledge. The third-annual survey by GMAC Insurance gauges driver knowledge of the rules of the road by testing licensed Americans on actual questions from state DMV license exams. Overall, results indicate that one in six drivers on the road - roughly 36 million licensed Americans - would not pass their written DMV exam if taken today. Iowa drivers had an overall average score of 79.4 percent (70 percent or higher is required to pass the test); 12 percent of Iowa respondents failed the test. In 2006, the state ranked ninth in the country. Illinois drivers had an average score of 74.4, and last year the state ranked 22nd. The test can be taken at (http://www.gmacinsurance.com).

Funds can be used to pay for medical and funeral costs, mental-health counseling, loss of wages or support, and other services. These funds were made available through the U.S. Department of Justice's Victims of Crime Act program. To date, funds for victim compensation have come from offenders convicted of federal crimes or private donations. Specifically, funds for this assistance come from criminal fines, forfeited bail bonds, penalties, and special assessments collected by the U.S. attorney's office and the Federal Bureau of Prisons.
