On Wednesday, August 27, the LST-325, a World War II amphibious vessel, will dock in the Quad Cities around 10 a.m. Forty-five-minute self-guided tours of the ship will be held from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. from Thursday, August 28, to Tuesday, September 2. The ship will dock on the Mississippi River along Ben Butterworth Parkway at River Drive and 25th Street in Moline. The Iowa Department of Public Health has received $4.1 million from the U.S. Department of Health & Human Services. The grant will be used to fund emergency preparedness and response for hospitals.

 

Scott County has created the Election Connection, an e-mail list informing constituents of upcoming election activities and events, including: early-voting announcements, filing deadlines, polling places and hours, and last-minute updates. The City of Rock Island has introduced a new online application process for city employment. All job applications must now be submitted online at RIGov.org. Job applicants should click on "employment" to get started. This new system also allows applicants to view all job descriptions and salary ranges for City of Rock Island positions. Applicants can select the positions they are interested in and receive an e-mail notification when those jobs are posted.

 

Children can explore their creative side at the new monthly program at the Davenport Public Library called "Wednesday Craft-ernoon." This free program does not require registration, and is geared toward elementary-school-aged kids. September's craft project will focus on patriotism. Girl Scouts in Iowa and Illinois will be attending 18 parties for the Saturday, August 23, release of The Cheetah Girls One World movie on Disney Channel. The "Living on the River" Expo showcases the quality of life in the Quad Cities and on the Mississippi River to visitors and people who might want to live here.
