The City of Davenport has halted issuing citations based on information gathered by speed and red-light cameras. In a decision last week, District Judge Gary McKenrick noted that Iowa law does not permit municipalities to enact ordinances that conflict with existing state traffic laws. He ruled that Davenport's authorization of red-light and speed cameras was in-conflict with state law and was therefore illegal. A press release from the City of Davenport said that "the cameras remain operational and are collecting data but, pending further [city] council direction, city staff will not be issuing citations for violations."
