Girl Scout Cookie sales will run February 12-March 20

January 25, 2016– Your favorite cookies are back February 12!

Everyone knows that the Girl Scout Cookie Sale is the only opportunity to stock up on those delicious Thin Mints, but a little known secret is that when girls sell cookies, they are learning valuable business skills.

“Girls have more ways to learn business skills by selling across multiple platforms. From selling cookies door-to-door, to making mobile sales at Cookie Booths, to online sales, girls are exposed to the cross-market nature of business today” says Nikki Habben, Girl Scouts of Eastern Iowa and Western Illinois COO. “By giving girls more opportunities to utilize technology with business, they are empowered to learn about STEM innovation.”

With the money girls raise from cookie sales, girls can travel nationally and abroad, attend Girl Scout events, and complete service projects. This year, it’s anticipated that more girls than ever will be using their program credit for summer camp at Camp Liberty, following a $3 million renovation with a new lodge and indoor equestrian arena.

“I knew that summer camp and traveling would be great experiences,” says Girl Scout, Mercedee Doty. “I have met many new girls and created friendships all over the council by participating in these adventures!”

This year, girls are asking customers to purchase an extra box (or many) and donate to Cookie Share, a program that supports local children affected by hunger. Cookies donated will be given to local churches, food banks, and volunteer groups who help ease the pains of hunger and provide a special treat for children in Iowa and Illinois.
