QUAD CITIES, USA: The Salvation Army of the Quad Cities announces, with heavy hearts, that Capt. Esther “Ray” Rahenkamp has passed away at the age of 93 in Florida on Sunday, Feb. 28th. Capt. Ray would travel to the Quad Cities for six winters to ring the bell at the large kettle in NorthPark Mall.

Capt. Ray would devote eight hours a day, six days a week, for six weeks to seek financial support for The Salvation Army of the Quad Cities. She devoted nearly 300 hours of service every Christmas season to help raise funds for the programs right here in the Quad Cities. Her contributions, ambassadorship, and passion for helping others will truly be missed. Major Gary Felton notes, “She may have been very small in stature, but she has left huge shoes to fill.”

A memorial service will be held on Sunday. March 13th, 2016 at 3:00pm at the Davenport Corps. located at 3400 W Central Park Ave, Davenport, IA. It is the family’s wish that memorials can be made out to The Salvation Army Red Kettle Campaign because even after her death, the bells will continue to ring in her honor.
