CLIVE, Iowa – A Bettendorf woman recently won a big prize playing her favorite lottery scratch game.
Denise Hill said she bought a “$250,000 Riches” scratch ticket Oct. 5 at Lund’s 66, 975 Spruce Hills Drive in Bettendorf and that ticket ended up winning the 20th of 72 prizes of $10,000 available in the game.
The 56-year-old works at Lund’s and said she bought her winning ticket during a break.
“I was by myself in the store and I looked at it and I looked at it again and I’m like, ‘No, that can’t be true,’” Hill told lottery employees Tuesday as she claimed her prize at the lottery’s regional office in Cedar Rapids.
Hill said she called for her manager right away to help her verify that she’d won.
“The next thing I know the door opened up and three of them came running over,” Hill said.
Hill said her manager and co-workers congratulated her on her big win. She said her big news also got released to the store’s customers, who now ask her to rub their lottery tickets for good luck.
Hill and her husband, Kevin, said they plan to use a portion of their lottery winnings to pay bills and share some with their children.
The $250,000 Riches scratch game is a $20 ticket. More details about how to play this game, and the number of prizes still up for grabs in it can be found on the Iowa Lottery’s website, www.ialottery.com.
