Boho Chic is celebrating women’s history month by welcoming back Desiree Border, owner and artist at 3 Gypsies Designs, to demonstrate her art glass jewelry and exhibit her newest works.

Desiree Border has always had a passion for the arts. She loved art projects as a child, especially stringing beads to make jewelry. Her passion eventually took her to Iowa City where she managed a bead store. “While in Iowa City a friend suggested that I try her glass blowing torch. I did and was instantly hooked”, says Desiree. She started selling her glass bead jewelry at the Davenport Farmer’s Market and the Beaux Arts Fair in 2003.

In 2005 Desiree was looking for a permanent location with studio space and became one of the first tenants in Bucktown Center for the Arts, Downtown Davenport. Here she made and sold her handmade art glass jewelry and hand-knitted/crocheted accessories. In 2012 she moved to the Village of East Davenport and the Boho Chic Gallery took over her spot from a smaller Bucktown space. “It has been over three years since Desi moved and we still have customers looking for her work. She is part of Bucktown’s history so we thought it fitting to feature her jewelry during women’s history month.”, says Heidi Brandt, photographer and co-owner of Boho Chic.

Desiree will be demonstrating her glass bead technique in the Boho Chic Gallery during Downtown Davenport’s Third Thursday on March 17 from 6 to 9 p.m. Her work will be featured in the gallery during Bucktown’s Final Friday, March 25th from 6 to 9 p.m. Her work can also be found at 3 Gypsies Designs at 1018 Mound Street in the Village of East Davenport.

Boho Chic is owned and operated by artists Dee Schricker and Heidi Brandt. The gallery features contemporary abstract art, local and fine art photography, fabric art and raku pottery. Their hours are Wed. through Saturday 11 a.m. to 6 p.m., open until 9 p.m. the third Thursday and Final Friday of every month. The gallery is located in Bucktown Center for the Arts, 225 E. 2nd Street, Suite 100, Downtown Davenport.
