Grassley supports architect of Bush-era Social Security privatization with ties to Koch Brothers

DES MOINES, Iowa – This morning Chuck Grassley voted to confirm Charles Blahous, a Republican with a long history of supporting Social Security privatization, to the Social Security Board of Trustees.

“We’ve got to protect and strengthen Social Security for future generations. This morning, Chuck Grassley continued his long history in Washington of supporting risky privatization efforts,” said Patty Judge. “Iowans want to know that the promise of Social Security will be kept, not jeopardized on the open market.”

Blahous has repeatedly argued that Social Security benefits are too generous and he recently opposed a bipartisan plan to stop cuts to Social Security disability recipients. Additionally, Blahous is a senior fellow at the Mercatus Institute, which is backed by the Koch Brothers.

To ensure the long-term stability and benefits of the program, Patty Judge supports increasing the current cap on Social Security wages to provide more funding for the program. Patty will also fight any attempts to privatize Social Security.
