I invite all high school students from Iowa’s Second Congressional District to participate in the Third Annual Congressional App Challenge. This nationwide event is intended to engage students’ creativity and encourage their participation in STEM fields, which play a more important role than ever in our 21st century economy.

In this competition, students can compete with their peers by creating and exhibiting their own software applications, or “apps”, for mobile, tablet, or computer devices on a platform of their choice.  Here’s what you need to know to participate:

- High school students may compete as individuals or in teams of up to four, as long as at least two of the team’s students are eligible to attend school in Iowa’s Second Congressional District.

- The competition runs from July 18, 2016, through November 2, 2016 at 11:59 p.m. EST.

- Students must submit their app and a short video explaining their creation and what they learned through this website: http://www.congressionalappchallenge.us/compete-2016/submit-your-app/

- The apps will be judged by a panel of local judges and winners will be announced in December 2016.

The winning app will be featured on the U.S. House of Representatives’ website (www.house.gov) and displayed in a U.S. Capitol exhibit.  For additional details, teachers and students should visit www.congressionalappchallenge.us or contact Maddie Bushnell at (202) 225-6576 or by email at Maddie.bushnell@mail.house.gov.

Feel free to forward this email to anyone who you think might want to participate in this exciting competition. I look forward to seeing what new apps our students submit!

Sincerely,

Dave Loebsack
