Bettendorf, Iowa, October 12, 2016 - Nearly 200 young ladies will take to the wrestling mats at Pleasant Valley High School this weekend to prepare for Olympic-style wrestling in the Midwest Mat of Dreams Preseason Duals. This unique event couples female wrestlers from around the country with modified wrestling rules that will help these young wresters transition to freestyle wrestling.

 

 

On Sunday, October 16 from 8:30am-4:00pm Female Elite Wrestling and Pleasant Valley Wrestling Club will host Iowa’s first dual tournament for girls and women. Current participant registrations make this tournament the largest girls wrestling tournament to ever take place in Iowa. Coach Lauren Louive of the Hawkeye Wrestling Club and co-coach Julie Johnsen are leading Iowa’s high school dual team against the nation’s best female wrestlers. The meet is open to the public and tickets are available for purchase at the door ($10/adult and children are fee). All proceeds go to PVWC and FEW to support the growth and development of women’s wrestling in Iowa. For more information regarding this event please email mattjschmit@gmail.com.

 

 

FEW is a non-profit organization that supports the growth and development of female athletes from beginning level to international competitors. With the mission of raising awareness for the sport through assisting elite female athletes with registration and travel for training and national and international competitions.
