Gallery C is proud to announce an exhibition featuring the work of Iowa painter Andonia Giannakouros entitled “Collapse” October 28 through December 4, 2016. Andonia Giannakouros is a representational painter working in oil. Her work focuses on the human figure making use of repetition to symbolize disruption, vibration, and to mimic images from her childhood, specifically repeating posters pasted onto walls in Europe. Her work is symbolic of the flattening of time/space/memory combining local and global events with her personal narrative. “Collapse” focuses on the events following the economic collapse of 2008. "The images are frozen moments of fading summers which, having been acted upon by memory, represent a changed reality,” Giannakouros says of her work. Born in Dubuque, Iowa, Giannakouros studied art at Clarke University, and spent summers in her parent’s native Greece.

Gallery C is pleased to host the artist at an Opening Reception on Friday, October 28 from 5:30-8:30 p.m. The public is invited, encouraged to attend, and to participate in the Historic Millwork District’s innovative art scene. All work is for sale. The reception is free and open to all ages featuring inspired food catered by Molly Kreiss with special musical guest Leon Campos.

Join us for artist talks on Friday, November 4 at 6:30 pm featuring Andonia Giannakouros and again on Friday, December 2 at 6:30 pm featuring a special guest speaker. Artist talks are a part of Gallery C’s regular First Fridays programming; a monthly downtown gallery hop that features evening programming at Gallery C, Studio Works, and Dubuque Museum of Art. Gallery C is open to the public Wednesday-Sunday from 1-4 p.m. or by appointment. For more information, visit gallerycm.org.

Gallery C is located in the Schmid Innovation Center at 900 Jackson Street in Dubuque, IA. Be a part of the gallery’s evolving exhibitions that create dialog, engage the community, and enrich the experience of the arts in Dubuque and across the region.
