“Overalls All Over” Statue arrives in Amana, Iowa
AMANA, Iowa- One of the 25 statues that depict Grant Wood’s famous American Gothic couple has arrived at the Amana Colonies Visitor Center in Amana, Iowa. The statue is part of the “Overalls All Over” promotion that is a combined effort of Go Cedar Rapids, Black Earth Gallery and Czech Village New Bohemia Main Street.
Each of the 25 statues is a 6’ life-sized depiction of one of the most familiar images in 20th century American art with different artists providing a fresh theme to the iconic couple. The Amana Colonies statue was painted by artists Gordon and DeAnna Kellenberger of High Amana. This statue is entitled “Remain True” in reference to the meaning of the word Amana. The statue is on permanent display outside of the Amana Colonies Visitor Center.
“In the few days that it has been on display it has already become a favorite photo op for visitors to the Amana Colonies.” said David Rettig, Executive Director of the Amana Colonies CVB. Rettig noted that Grant Wood was a frequent visitor to the Amana Colonies, his visits and art influenced Amana artists, such as Carl Flick.
