For its 2016 holiday season the Heartland Marimba Festival will feature a solo spectacle of festive music performed by the internationally acclaimed artist Matthew Coley. He will perform on marimba with a variety of other percussion and fun sounds using four implements at a time, masterfully making it sound like there are many musicians on stage. The concert will contain beautiful, holiday favorites that he has arranged for this tour, such as Winter Wonderland, Frosty the Snowman, Sleigh Ride, and Jingle Bell Rock! Local student musicians will join Matthew for some of the concerts.

Matthew has performed concerts and taught master classes in over 30 US states and 10 other countries. He established the Heartland Marimba Festival in 2014 to build an organization devoted to the art of contemporary classical marimba and to providing more opportunities for students, artists, composers, and communities. Matthew’s performing has been described with phrases like "off-the-charts" (John Cook, Westminster Presbyterian Fine Arts Series) and "exquisite performances on marimba" (www.seechicagodance.org). He has four critically acclaimed solo albums to his name and has appeared on several other released compact discs as a performer and composer with artists and ensembles such as cellist Barbara Haffner, marimbist Mark Ford, the Iowa/Hungary Percussion Project, and the University of North Texas Percussion Ensemble. HMF is on track to be a widespread, nonprofit organization with many subsidiaries: touring ensembles (Heartland Marimba Quartet and Collective), Academy, Publications, SoundW.A.Y.S. (youth music workshop), and community outreach. Visit www.hearMatthewColey.com and www.HeartlandMarimbaFestival.com.
