(DES MOINES) - Iowa Gov. Terry E. Branstad, Lt. Gov. Kim Reynolds and Iowa Secretary of Agriculture Bill Northey, along with industry stakeholders, will hold media availability on Wednesday, August 19, 2015, at 2:30 p.m. at the Turkey Grill at the Iowa State Fair on the highly-pathogenic avian influenza (HPAI).

Live bird exhibitions were canceled at Iowa's county and state fairs this year to prevent the spread of HPAI, a precaution recommended by both the Iowa Turkey Federation and Iowa Poultry Association. Iowa leads the nation in egg production and is in the top ten in the nation for turkey production.

The speakers at the media availability are as follows:

  • Iowa Gov. Terry Branstad
  • Iowa Lt. Gov. Kim Reynolds
  • Iowa Sec. of Agriculture Bill Northey
  • Dave Rettig, President, Rembrandt Foods
  • Ross Thoreson, Board President, Iowa Turkey Federation
  • Randy Olson, Executive Director of the Iowa Poultry Association and Iowa Egg Council
