Des Moines, April 5, 2016—On Friday, April 15, members of the Iowa Supreme Court will meet with students from seven Clinton area schools to discuss the Iowa judicial system and the role of the courts in Iowa. The justices will visit with students in Clinton, Camanche, Tipton, DeWitt, and Maquoketa.

In addition to the school visits, the supreme court will hold a special session in Clinton on Thursday evening, April 14, at 7:00 p.m., in the Clinton High School auditorium, 817 8th Avenue South, Clinton. During the special session, the court will hear oral arguments in one case. The oral arguments are open to the public. A public reception with the justices in the Clinton High School commons will follow the oral arguments. The Clinton County Bar Association is sponsoring the reception.

The defendant (appellant) seeks further review from the Iowa Supreme Court after the Iowa Court of Appeals affirmed his conviction for possession of a firearm as a felon, carrying weapons on school grounds, going armed with a dangerous weapon, and possession of a controlled substance. Appellant contends that after he was injured in a high school football game, school officials conducted an unreasonable search of his school-issued football equipment bag constituting an unreasonable search and seizure under the Fourth Amendment in violation of his constitutional rights.
Public Reception
A public reception with the supreme court justices will follow the oral arguments in the Clinton High School commons. The Clinton County Bar Association is sponsoring the reception.
