Non-profit tech association CompTIA released its Cyberstates 2016 report this morning, which provides a state-by-state analysis of the U.S. technology job market, and found that Iowa’s tech industry employment ranked 31st in the country and employed 46,724 workers in 2015. These workers had an annual average salary of $73,451, which was 73% more than the average private sector wage in the entire state.

So, why is the tech industry so important to Iowa? It means:

•966 net jobs added between 2014 and 2015 – a number that’s expected to continue to rise in 2016
•A tech payroll of $3.4 billion in 2015, ranked 40th nationwide, accounting for 3.6% of all private sector payroll in Iowa
•4.0% of the state economy is from the tech industry
