Author tells Christmas story in debut children’s book, ‘The Tear’

FARMINGTON, Minn. – “The Tear” (published by WestBow Press) is author Karen Evenson’s interpretation of the story of Jesus' birth, told in a short, easy-to-read illustrated children’s book.

Follow the frail little woman in Bethlehem as she greets weary travelers and witnesses a gathering of shepherds, three wise men and a chorus of heavenly angels singing. Although she feels sad because she has no gift for the new born babe, Mary tells the frail woman that she has given the best gift of all: her love.

“God is always relevant,” Evenson says. “My book is just a reminder that love and kindness are free gifts we can give to one another.”

She explains that the book helps children understand the message that “Jesus is God’s greatest gift to humanity. We don’t have to be rich and we don’t have to give expensive gifts in order to receive God’s love, but we can always give our love freely, to God and to one another and that is the most precious gift we can give.”

Evenson adds that the Christmas story was one she learned as a child in Sunday school. She taught the story over and over as a Sunday school teacher and pastor. “I have always loved it and have never tired of it,” she says.
