Single in tenth gives Quad Cities 2-1 win over Bees
DAVENPORT, Iowa – Dexture McCall legged out a double to lead off the bottom of the tenth and Kyle Tucker drove him home with a single as the Quad Cities River Bandits walked off a 2-1 win over the Burlington Bees in ten innings on Sunday afternoon in front of 2,998 fans at Modern Woodmen Park. Tucker’s walk off single capped off a three-hit day for the former first round selection.
McCall’s second hit of the day, a double, started the bottom of the tenth and Tucker notched the Bandits’ fourth walk off win of the season and earned the squad its third extra-innings win in the last eight games.
The tandem of Albert Abreu and Franklin Perez tossed nine quality innings for the Bandits (23-20, 54-58) to help force extras with Burlington (23-20, 55-58). Abreu allowed only one run on five hits and three walks over five innings while striking out six. Perez worked fours scoreless innings in relief, scattering three hits while striking out four. Juan Carlos Santos (1-0) earned his first win, tossing a scoreless tenth inning for Quad Cities.
The Bees broke a scoreless tie in the fourth inning. Matt Thiass led off with a single and crossed home on a single from Alexi Rivera to put Burlington on top, 1-0.
The Bandits loaded the bases in the bottom of the fourth but could not capitalize. Tucker, Randy Cesar, and Kristian Trompiz knocked three-straight singles but were stranded thanks to two strikeouts.
Quad Cities tied the game in the sixth. Tucker led off with a triple off the right field wall. Cesar followed with single to score Tucker and tie the game, 1-1.
For the second time, Quad Cities stranded the bases loaded in the seventh. Myles Straw worked a walk and Stephen Wrenn reached on a bunt single. McCall singled up the middle to load the bases, but a pop out and fly out left the bases full and took a 1-1 tie to the eighth.
Jose Rodriguez took no decision in a five inning scoreless start for Burlington. The right-hander gave up five hits and struck out seven batters. Blake Smith blew a save, allowing a run over two innings. Andrew Vinson (0-2) dropped the decision, allowing one run over two-plus innings.
