(DAVENPORT - January 4, 2016) The work of Midwest regionalist artist Brad Bisbey will be displayed January 6-30 at the Bereskin Fine Art Gallery and Studio in Bucktown, Davenport. Bisbey, hailed as "the Grant Wood of our time," will present his latest collection, Painting People.
Painting People is comprised of more than 30 works, including Bisbey's highly regarded "Freedom from Fear," which exemplifies his transition from photorealism into a more personal style that incorporates looser brush strokes reminiscent of impressionism.
"I give some credit for this change from my annual 30 painting in 30 days," Bisbey said. "It's taught me to find my true voice through varied brush work application."
An artist's reception will take place January 29 from 6-9 p.m. at Bereskin Fine Art Gallery and Studio's Final Friday event. The public is invited to attend. Bisbey will be on hand to discuss his work and historical influences with art enthusiasts.
The reception is in conjunction with the Sweet Charity Fundraiser, a Bucktown dessert tasting benefitting the Central Community Circle Food Pantry, located at 6th and Vine Street in Davenport. For additional information or a list of other downtown businesses participating in the Sweet Charity Fundraiser, contact Pat Bereskin at 563-508-4630.
"I'd Iike to think that my painting is always growing.  I have painted very tightly at times, and I have painted very loosely at other times.  Currently, I am seeking to balance these two styles of painting.  For me, these 'styles' are not opposed to one another, but ideally compliment one another.  Blending the areas of looseness and tightness within the same painting is both fun and challenging.  I don't want to return to tight painting, but a part of me wants to reign myself in a little while continuing to respond to each subject both intellectually and emotionally."
