BRAMPTON, Ontario (January 23, 2014) - Gergo Nagy scored two goals and added an assist and Ty Rimmer made 34 saves as the Quad City Mallards defeated the host Brampton Beast 4-1 Thursdaynight. With the victory, the Mallards (17-9-7, 41 points) snapped a four game winless streak and moved into a sixth place tie with the Tulsa Oilers
After Quad City's Jeff Lee broke a scoreless deadlock from the doorstep 11 minutes into the second period, Nagy would lead the charge as the Mallards took control in the third period. Matt Boyd roofed Nagy's centering feed to double the Mallard lead at 4:54 of the third. At 13:21 Nagy stretched the gap to 3-0 with a blast from the slot. Rob Collins's wrist shot from the top of the left wing circle cut the margin to 3-1 and spoiled Rimmer's shutout bid with 2:07 remaining but Nagy would cap off the Mallard victory by scoring an empty net goal with just 65 seconds left
Vladimir Nikiforov returned to the Mallards' line-up Thursday night after coming off injured reserve earlier in the week.
The Mallards and Beast meet again tomorrow night in Brampton. The Mallards next play at home onFriday, January 31 at 7:05 p.m. against the Tulsa Oilers.
