River Bandits and Great River Brewery team up to create ‘taste of summer’ with new craft beer
DAVENPORT. Iowa – Baseball season is synonymous with the first taste of summer, and in 2016 the Quad Cities River Bandits have taken it literally. Teaming up with local Great River Brewery in Davenport, the River Bandits now offer ‘Bandit Brew;’ a seasonal draught beer that is as refreshing and unique as the fun at Modern Woodmen Park. An amber ale that is rich and malty with notes of Italian chocolate, the Bandit Brew is packed with flavors that both complement the great food options at the ballpark but also stands on its own.
With its blonde chocolate flavor, Bandit Brew is available all throughout Modern Woodmen Park on game days. It’s on tap in the Sports Lounge and the Big Poppy cart behind section one as well as two taps in the Rock Island Grill, Davenport Diner and Moline Market. With eight total taps available throughout Modern Woodmen Park, Bandit Brew is never far from reach. Bandit Brew is a part of Microbrew Mondays at Modern Woodmen Park, available for just $3 during Monday home games all season long, excluding July 4. Outside the ballpark, Bandit Brew is also available at Great River Brewery; meaning the taste of Quad Cities baseball is available even when the team is on the road.
“Local craft beer is an integral part of a Quad Cities community that is proud to Make It Here,” said River Bandits owner Dave Heller. “With the help of a great local brewery like Great River, we were able to create a beer that both tastes great and embodies summer fun – just like the River Bandits!”
A series of tastings and trials led to the joint creation of Bandit Brew, said Great River Brew Master Paul Krutzfield. The root of the River Bandit-specific craft beer stems from Heller’s love for a staple in Great River’s arsenal, the Dirty Blonde, and the Bandits’ well-known penchant for giving away candy. The new Bandit Brew is the perfect summer beer for outdoor events – like baseball games.
“It’s seasonable,” says Krutzfield. “It packs a lot of flavor in a beer with a fairly low ABV, so you can enjoy more than one during a game.”
Fans 21 and over can try the Bandit Brew when the River Bandits return home for a four-game Memorial Day Weekend series at Modern Woodmen Park. They host the Peoria Chiefs starting Friday, May 27, at 7:00 p.m. CT with gates opening an hour prior to first pitch. The Friday night series opener also features Smart Toyota of Quad Cities fireworks.
