Coal Valley, Ill. (July 27, 2016) – Kids can now enjoy a brand new playground while visiting Niabi Zoo.
The new playground, which will open to Niabi Zoo members on Thursday evening during a members-only event and to the general public on Friday – is roughly twice as large as the previous play structure. It features a soft recycled rubber base and is split into two sections – one for one to five year olds and one for kids who are six to 12 years old.
“We’re so excited to officially open the new playground to visitors,” said Lee Jackson, director of Niabi Zoo. “This new set is much more modern and incorporates lots of opportunities for little ones to play, explore and have fun.”
The new play structure, located by the front concession stand, replaces the old and outdated playground that was torn down earlier this summer. It is compliant with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and also features ADA-accessible interactive elements.
Features of the Play and Park structures include a wiggle wave slide, rain wheel, imitation boulder for climbing, virtual tunnel with double activity panel, chinning bar, a pipe wall and bug wall, two sets of double slides and more.
The new playground cost roughly $120,000 and was funded through donations made to the Niabi Zoological Society.
