Quad Cities: Over 250 athletes from across North America, both men and women, arrive in the Quad Cities the last weekend in October to compete for the National Title at the 19th annual North American Strongman National Championships. The competition takes place at the RiverCenter in downtown Davenport, Iowa, for its second year in the Quad Cities. The Quad Cities Convention & Visitors Bureau estimates the local economic impact will be $250,000.
The Quad Cities is comprised of Moline/East Moline & Rock Island in Illinois; Davenport & Bettendorf in Iowa; and surrounding communities.
In order to get to the National Championships, athletes had to compete throughout the year at a Strongman Corporation event and place within the top three of their class just to qualify to compete in the Quad Cities. The athletes will be competing not only to become North America’s Strongest, but they are also vying for a spot at the World Championships, that will be held next March at the Arnold Schwarzenegger Sports Festival in Ohio. The overall winners in each of the six different weight divisions will earn their Strongman/woman pro card which will allow them to compete as a professional athlete in 2017.
