Thank you to all of the Food Hub visitors who stopped in during our 3rd Anniversary Celebration. Our event fell on the same day as Icestravaganza and we were pleased with the turnout on one of the coldest days so far this winter. To see all of the fun photos, search #quadcitiesfoodhub on Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, and LinkedIn.
Why is local food important? Eating foods that are grown locally benefits individuals, communities, and the environment. Food grown locally can be sold sooner so it tastes fresher and has more nutrients. Often, farmers will pick produce from their fields in the morning and by afternoon we’re selling it in our coolers. You can only get it fresher if you grew it yourself! Communities benefit because the money consumers spend stays within our local economy. Food grown locally doesn’t require being shipped across oceans or trucked across the country, reducing the use of fossil fuels.
New Grab 'n Go prepared foods are available for sale. Here are some of the selections our new Kitchen Coordinator, Brook has made since starting here last month:scones, cream cheese brownies, black bean vegan soup, energy bites, roasted garlic and basil hummus, roasted thyme, garlic, and rosemary, butternut squash soup, galettes, and purple potato salad. Check Facebook for announcements to find out what is currently available.
