SPRINGFIELD, Ill. – State Rep. Mike Smiddy, D-Hillsdale, issues the following statement after the governor made his annual budget address:

"Today the governor had an opportunity to address the concerns of the people of Illinois and outline a compromise. Instead, we heard more of the insults and extreme proposals that have stretched this budget crisis on for months, and it's frustrating that the governor continues to ignore the urgency surrounding this budget.

"Compromise is the answer to move Illinois past this crisis, and get the families, students and service agencies the help they need. The governor argues that his reform will help the economy and create jobs, but Illinois business and working families need stability and an end to the crisis in order to grow. I hope that today’s “more of the same” speech is quickly replaced by specific steps we can take to come to a budget agreement.”
