PORT BYRON, Ill. - State Rep. Mike Smiddy, D-Hillsdale, will hold a press conference on Wednesday to discuss the measure that was passed last week in the Illinois House to provide community colleges and several universities with emergency funding to allow them to continue operating during Illinois’ budget impasse.  Smiddy will highlight the need for additional state investment this fiscal year and in the approaching Fiscal Year 2017. The press conference will be held at Western Illinois University’s Quad Cities’ Campus in Riverfront Hall, Rooms 103 and 104, on Wednesday, April 27, 2016 at 1:30 p.m.

Last week, Smiddy supported the funding bill as a stop-gap effort designed to keep universities and community colleges from closing or laying off thousands of workers. He’ll call on Governor Rauner and lawmakers to continue the work of negotiating an investment in higher education that will allow institutions across Illinois to continue to provide a world class education for students.
