HILLSDALE, Ill. – Continuing his effort to help those searching for a cure to breast cancer, and help patients receive the treatment and support they need, state Rep. Mike Smiddy, D-Hillsdale, is urging residents to join him for the Komen Quad Cities Race for the Cure on Saturday, June 11 at 8:00 a.m.

"Komen is leading the way in the fight against breast cancer, and I'll do anything I can to help continue their effort to find a cure and ensure local women have the testing and treatment they need," Smiddy said. "As the husband of a breast cancer survivor, I know how important early detection and proper treatment can be, and I hope you'll join me at the run to help Komen ensure that every woman in our communities has access to these tools."

Smiddy and his family will join thousands from the larger Quad Cities community for the Komen Quad Cities Race for the Cure. He is urging residents to join him in participating in the race, make a donation or come out to support the runners, patients and survivors. All proceeds will be used to provide testing and care for local women and fund national research looking for a cure to the disease.

Smiddy has voted numerous times to fund Illinois’ Breast and Cervical Cancer Program after Gov. Bruce Rauner pushed to reduce funding for the program.
