With warmer weather upon us, we are excited to to share information on three very popular upcoming QCESC STEM opportunities for students and volunteers.
  •   April 22 - High School Trebuchet Egg Throw Competition - REGISTER HERE
    High school teams of students design & build trebuchets to launch raw eggs at targets at three  distances and present to a panel of judges.  Awards given to the top three places along with most innovative design and longest throw.  The event is hosted at Bettendorf High School.  Team entries are still being accepted with 21 teams so far.
    Volunteers are needed with no previous experience and no preparation required ahead of the event.REGISTER HERE
  • May 13 - High School Cardboard Boat Regatta Race - REGISTER HERETeams from area high schools will design and construct a one or two-person boats made from cardboard. It must be maneuverable and stay afloat for approximately 600 yards.  Awards will be given for the fast time for 3 places along with judge awards for most innovative design and a new award for Best Decorative Design.  The Decorative award is in partnership the Putnam Museum and  The Discovery of King Tut Exhibit
    Registration is now open for teams and for volunteers using the link below.  The event is hosted at Bettendorf Middle Park's Lagoon. Last year we had a record 47 teams from 7 area high schools.

  • July 25-29 - Engineering Kids One Day Camps - REGISTER HEREOne day camps for students in grades 2nd - 8th grade are again being offered a collaboration between the QCESC, the Putnam Museum and the Iowa State University College of Engineering who design and lead the camp.  Each one day camp will include three, fun educational hand-on activities including LEGO robotics with challenges for various student experience levels and will include big screen movie along with a camp t-shirt and lunch.
    Registration is now open for students and volunteers.  Funding is available for eligible students can't afford the registration fee. REGISTER HERE
