CHS Student Finishes Award-Winning Sculpture at Isabel Bloom

Village in Bloom sculpture winner Reilly Moeller will produce her artwork at the Isabel Bloom production studio Wed., Jan. 27, at 2:30 pm.

The media is welcome to shoot photos and interview the Davenport Central High School senior as she works.

The Village in Bloom contest, sponsored by Alcoa, invited Scott and Rock Island high school students to create an eagle-themed sculpture for the contest.

The contest was held in the fall of 2015, and included a mentoring session with Isabel Bloom co-owner and sculptor Donna Young.

Who: The media is invited to watch Davenport Central High School student Reilly Moeller as she finishes her award-winning sculpture, "A Mother's Love." The sculpture won the 2016 Village in Bloom bald eagle sculpture competition sponsored by Alcoa. Photo and interview opportunities will be available.

What: Reilly will finish her sculpture in the Isabel Bloom production studio under the mentorship of Bloom artisans. The sculpture will be available for sale to the public at the Village in Bloom festival, May 7, 2016. Proceeds from the sale will benefit the festival.

Background: This is the 2nd sculpture competition for Village in Bloom, and the first sponsored by Alcoa. Last year's competition was won by Bettendorf home school senior Amy Van Fossen. The 4th annual Village in Bloom Arts Festival will be held Sat. May 7, 2016. Founded to honor legendary artists Isabel and John Bloom, it features fine art, performing artists, free activities for children and families, and exhibits of Isabel and John Bloom’s artwork.
