The University of Dubuque Department of Fine and Performing Arts will present a series of arts and music events this spring featuring UD ensembles that include music and dance.

 

UD Jazz Ensemble “Swing into Spring”

When: Thursday, April 7, at 7:30 p.m.

Where: John and Alice Butler Hall, Heritage Center

Admission: Free, ticket required

“Swing into Spring” features big band swing era music including tunes by Duke Ellington, Ella Fitzgerald, and Benny Goodman. The UD Dance Company will be featured on select pieces. The jazz ensemble is directed by Dr. Nicholas Bratcher, director of instrumental music, and the dance company is directed by Doug Mackie, adjunct professor of dance, choreography, and theatre.

 

UD Spring Choral Concert “This is the Day”

When: Sunday, April 10, at 2 p.m.

Where: John and Alice Butler Hall, Heritage Center

Admission: Free, ticket required

“This is the Day” features music of the UD Concert Choir, directed by Dr. Charles Barland, professor of music, and the UD Chamber Singers, directed by Kristen Eby, adjunct music faculty. The choirs will present the program on their national tour from Wisconsin to New York.

 

UD Wind Ensemble Spring Concert “The Elements”

When: Tuesday, April 12, at 7:30 p.m.

Where: John and Alice Butler Hall, Heritage Center

Admission: Free, ticket required

“The Elements” features musicians from the UD Wind Ensemble, directed by Dr. Nicholas Bratcher, and the Clarke University Winds, directed by David Resnick, instructor of music at Clarke. In addition, the ensembles will perform a Midwestern premiere featuring UD student Wade Gibson on solo timpani. “The Elements” is a musical examination of the impact the four basic elements – fire, water, air, and earth – as well as the synthetic element of metal have on our person and society.

 

UD Gospel Choir Spring Concert

When: Wednesday, April 20, at 7:30 p.m.

Where: Blades Chapel, University of Dubuque

Admission: Free

Under the direction of Bridgett Boone, gospel choir director, the UD Gospel Choir Spring Concert features pieces based around the theme: “All the earth worships you and sings praises to you; they sing praises to your name.” Selah. Psalms 66:4

 

UD Chamber Singers Spring Concert

When: Saturday, April 23, at 7:30 p.m.

Where: Blades Chapel, University of Dubuque

Admission: Free

Directed by Kristen Eby, the annual spring concert will be an a cappella celebration of American folk, world music, classical, and pop styles.

 

UD Spartaneous Improv Night

When: Wednesday, May 4, at 7:30 p.m.

Where: Babka Theatre, Heritage Center

Admission: Free, ticket required

UD Spartaneous Improv Troupe, advised by Greg Wolf, will perform comedy skits with suggestions from the audience.
